Today, more than
ever, the world needs to become eco-friendly. As temperatures rise, water
supplies diminish and landfills reach capacity, each person must do their
part in helping our planet to survive. While it may seem overwhelming at first
- it's really not. KFMB-TV has created a campaign of 12 "It's Easy To Be Green"
tips that will help encourage our viewers to recycle, save water and do their
part to save the planet. These little reminders will cover topics from composting
to getting kids involved in the recycling porcess in a campaign that will
run throughout the year.
It's Easy To Be Green...
Green Tip #1
Lower your thermostat during the winter and at night -- and if possible –
use a programmable one.
Green Tip #2
Recycle your newspapers and magazines. And for your green waste…start a compost
pile in your back yard.
Green Tip #3
Turn off lights and electronics when you leave the room…and unplug your cell
phone charger when it’s not in use.
Green Tip #4
Check out your bathroom. If possible – switch to low-flow faucets, shower-heads
and toilets.
Green Tip #5
Bring your own reusable shopping bags to the store. They’re bigger and sturdier
than plastic bags…and won’t pollute our environment.
Green Tip #6
After bathing – hang up that towel instead of tossing it in the wash. It’s
still clean and can be used again.
Green Tip #7
Limit the length of your showers…and try turning off the water while you soap
up and shampoo.
Green Tip #8
Consider using organic cleaning products like vinegar, borax and baking soda.
You’ll find recipes on the internet.
Green Tip #9
Go paperless. Consider reading your newspaper and magazine subscriptions online…and
switch to electronic banking too.
Green Tip #10
Consider buying a fuel-efficient car or hybrid. Plus -- turn off your car
if you need to idle more than one minute.
Green Tip #11
Get the kids involved. Have them decorate special recycling bins for paper,
plastics and cans to organize the process.
Green Tip #12
Recycle plastic bottles and cans. If your’e not at home…take the extra steps
to find that recycling bin. It’s good exercise…and good for the environment.
