After all the training it's time to rest. I made one last trip to the gym today for a final meeting with the treadmill followed by lots of stretching. Now it's time for a break.

So here we are. The Race For The Cure is now behind us and we are in the home stretch for this year's Komen 3 Day Walk. I'm ready.
So here we are. The Race For The Cure is now behind us and we are in the home stretch for this year's Komen 3-Day Walk. I'm ready. I have been training for months - either hiking the hills or hitting the treadmill - and my feet feel good. There's just one minor distraction... the weather.

Where to begin. The rain. The wind. The combination. It was a brutal start to the second day of the 3 day journey and didn't let up much as the hours went by.
Where to begin. The rain. The wind. The combination. It was a brutal start to the second day of the 3 day journey and didn't let up much as the hours went by. But let me just say that I don't think anyone has suffered as much from this unpleasant display from Mother Nature as those who are camping.

It could have rained... but it didn't. It could have been cold... but it wasn't. The economy could have kept the numbers down... but that just didn't happen.
It could have rained... but it didn't. It could have been cold... but it wasn't. The economy could have kept the numbers down... but that just didn't happen. Instead it was a beautiful, sunny morning in Balboa Park and 6th Avenue was filled with thousands of runners and walkers of all ages with one common goal - to raise money to support those with breast cancer and fund research to find a cure.

Yep, battling some slightly sore knees as I sit at the computer tonight. I had a good hike at Torrey Pines yesterday and hit the treadmill for a five mile mix of running and walking on an incline today.

So here we are, with just a month to go before we hit the pavement for the kick off of the 2010 3 Day For The Cure... and the weather is already putting a damper on things.
So here we are, with just a month to go before we hit the pavement for the kick off of the 2010 3 Day For The Cure... and the weather is already putting a damper on things. Is it a coincidence that my walking partner this year will be none other than News 8's Chief Meteorologist Matt Baylow... hmmm. Come on Baylow - I know you have connections - do something about that wet stuff falling from the skies. Until then... time to turn to the trusty treadmill!

It was a cloudy start to the day but no wet stuff. I rolled into camp a little late this morning and didn't get walking until about 7:45 a.m., which is late by 3 Day standards. On the second day there seems to be a strong desire to hit the pavement as early as organizers will allow.
What a cold start. In my six years of walking the 3 Day I have never shivered so much waiting for the opening ceremonies to get underway.
What a cold start. In my six years of walking the 3 Day I have never shivered so much waiting for the opening ceremonies to get underway. Of course, I wasn't alone. Over four thousand of us, including all the wonderful volunteers, were anxious to get moving. But once we did, things warmed up in a hurry.

I can never fall asleep the night before the first day of the walk. I'm not a great sleeper anyway but this just seems to push me over the edge on the insomnia front. But I also know I'm far from alone.

There's a point in training for the 3 Day when I'm thankful for the weeks or months I have to get ready for all that walking.
There's a point in training for the 3 Day when I'm thankful for the weeks or months I have to get ready for all that walking. But once it comes down to just a matter of day, I get a little anxious. My knee is still bothering me but I'm not going to let it stop me at all. I think I'm going to pop by a drug store in the next day or so and pick up a little tenser bandage for extra support. Other than that, I feel ready.

Sore. That sums up how I'm feeling tonight. My feet, especially my toes, and my leg in general. Even my lower back's a bit achy.

I always set my alarm for 5:30 for the morning of the Race For The Cure.
I always set my alarm for 5:30 for the morning of the Race For The Cure. But it's really a moot point year after year because, for some reason, I always wake up shortly after five after a night of not much sleep, thinking about what a great event this is and anxious to start my day.
What better way to start a Sunday morning that to join about 50 other women for a little tennis for a great cause? It's called "Rally For A Cure - a great little fundraiser put on by the fun loving crowd at the Rancho Penasquitos Tennis Center.
Ever notice a clicking sound coming from your knee when you climb a flight of stairs? I've had it for a few weeks now and am hoping it will go away soon.
Ever notice a clicking sound coming from your knee when you climb a flight of stairs? I've had it for a few weeks now and am hoping it will go away soon. I'm not too worried because, from what I've read on several medical websites, it's probably the result of a slight injury and, if there's no pain associated with it, it will probably go away on its own. So now I have to own up to what probably caused it.
After finding myself struggling to really get going on my training this year, I've decided to start small.
After finding myself struggling to really get going on my training this year, I've decided to start small. This will be my 6th time walking the incredible 60 mile journey and for some reason the training portion has left me lacking in the motivation department. I've been doing my usual two or three days at the gym combined with my weekly outings on the tennis court - but I know it's time to get serious. So I'm setting a few goals for myself this week.
