It's the latest product in the personal security market. A San Diego-based company has come out with the HotShot. It's a non-lethal pepper powder weapon mainly designed for consumer use.
Created by Sorrento Valley's PepperBall Technologies, the HotShot is apparently right on target with consumers seeking a compact and concealable personal security weapon.
"We believe that this can be marketed to women and men, especially for young women, college students and people that are walking around or jogging," Conrad Sun said.
It took about two and a half years to develop the device, which instantly bursts a large, visible cloud of irritating pepper powder up to 12 feet and works immediately to disable an attacker.
"Most of the time when we actually test products like this people have come back and the only thing they can say is wow, it's unbelievable. We need one of these," Sun said.
The HotShot kit comes with two practice rounds, a live pepper-filled cartridge, a target and an instructional DVD.
"When we looked at this product we felt that people needed to practice with it before they got comfortable with it. So that's why we applied two practice rounds with it. We feel that the more you practice with it, the more comfortable you'll feel and the more you will use it when you need it," Sun said.
