Scientists Say Pacific Ocean Garbage Patch Larger Than They Thought

Posted: Updated:
San Diego scientists say a huge patch of garbage floating in the Pacific Ocean may be larger than they first thought.

The New Horizon is carrying a 30-person team to what is known as the Great Pacific Garbage Patch.

Along the way, they've been collecting samples every 12 hours.

So far, they've encountered more debris than they were expecting, causing some concern.

Scientists said their main goal is to find a way to clean up the toxic mess and leave a clean ocean for the next generation.
