ENCINITAS, Calif. (CBS 8) - A Carlsbad man who stood for peace was murdered on vacation in Maryland, and on Friday, his friends and family remembered him as a kind and creative free spirit.
Kenneth Gram, 22, was stabbed to death in Maryland.
His family held a candlelight vigil at Moonlight Beach in Encinitas Friday, and said they were not out for revenge.
That makes it more difficult for friends and family to understand why Gram was killed around 2 a.m. November 18 while walking by himself in Annapolis, where he was on vacation.
Gram was dedicated to volunteering with Kids for Peace, a non-profit organization co-founded by his sister.
Gram was a 2005 graduate of Carlsbad High School and a recent graduate of UC Santa Cruz, where he studied creative writing and already had some of his poetry published.
Gram's loved ones are hoping their violent loss can serve as a lesson for responding with compassion, and not revenge.
