Lifeguards attempt to rescue trapped dog in Windansea

Posted: Updated:

WINDANSEA (CBS 8) - San Diego lifeguards were hard at work Wednesday trying to rescue a dog trapped beneath the rocks along Windansea.

Fuji, a Jack Russell terrier, got away from her owner Tuesday afternoon. On Wednesday afternoon, a woman walking along the beach heard what sounded like a dog crying coming from the cracks of some large rocks. That's when Fuji's owner showed up.

"I was putting up these flyers all along the cove. And just got to here and was then trying to find a spot to put it, and then I saw a lady looking at the rocks and heard her whimpering. And so It's just lucky, I just came at the right time," dog owner Ruth Guymer said.

Lifeguards dug around the rocks, hoping to get Fuji out. They also tranquilized the dog to keep her calm.
