Caltrans: All lanes of I-15 in Escondido closed durning burn

Escondido (CBS 8) – The time for the burning of the Escondido bomb house has been pushed to approximately 11 a.m. Thursday. Interstate 15 is expected to be shut down about 30 minutes prior to the start of the burn.

SAN DIEGO - Interstate 15 will be closed in both directions in Escondido on Thursday from 9 a.m. to noon, according to the California Department of Transportation.

On southbound I-15, the freeway will be closed at Centre City Parkway. In the northbound direction the freeway will be closed at State Route 78.

The San Diego County Sheriff's Department will be removing explosive materials that were found at a residence adjacent to the freeway. The Sheriff's Department has also requested the closure of the westbound and eastbound ramps from State Route 78 to northbound I-15 and the northbound on-ramps at Valley Parkway and El Norte Parkway.

Southbound vehicles will be detoured off at Centre City Parkway and follow the detour to southbound I-15. Northbound vehicles will be detoured to the eastbound SR-78 Centre City Parkway off-ramp then back onto the northbound I-15 Centre City Parkway on-ramp. Both detours will have Escondido Police

Officers will be on site to assists motorists around the closure.

Changeable Message Signs are in place on I-15 and SR-78 to warn drivers about the closure. On Thursday morning all of permanent fixed CMS in the area will be on with the same message.

Motorists are advised to avoid the area if possible. Significant delays are expected on both the freeway and city streets.
