Vet calendar shows fur, feathers & lots of skin

Posted: Updated:

(CBS 8) - A new calendar is showing fur, feathers and lots of skin. Veterinarians from all over the world bore all and posed with their patients, all in an effort to draw attention to alternative medicine.

The Dr. ShowMore calendar is catching a lot of attention, from showing some skin with a Shetland pony in October and going au naturel with a goat in July to letting it all hang out with a Labrador in February. It's catching a lot of attention.

Doctor Margo Roman created the calendar to expose the benefits of holistic medicine in treating animals, from homeopathy to herbal remedies to acupuncture.

"Fourteen veterinarians volunteered their mind, body, spirit to make the calendar," Dr. Roman said.

One of those volunteer vets was Dr. Tamara Hebbler of Solana Beach.

"What we're trying to do is really bring awareness around the whole field for people to use for their animals as well as with themselves," she said.

And in this case, you'll actually want to read the accompanying articles.

"Each month of the calendar shows you something you probably don't know," photographer and editor Jan Rasmusen said.

In Dr. Hebbler's case, the potential dangers of over-vaccinating your pet.

"It just shows how many veterinarians really care about what they're doing, that they would put themselves -- literally -- out there," Dr. Roman said.

The Dr. Show More calendar costs $15, and we're told that supplies are limited.
