Vets caring for dog after ears chopped off

Posted: Updated:

CHULA VISTA (CBS 8) - A dog is recovering after having its ears cut off in a sickening case of animal cruelty.

Veterinarians say the animal was found wandering around a trailer park in Lemon Grove over the weekend. It was bleeding profusely because its ears had been cut off. Luckily, now the animal is doing okay.

Vets speculate whoever carried out the heinous crime did it to aid the dog in fighting, or to make it look more cosmetically appealing.

If caught, they could face serious charges.

"If they get caught, it's a felony because it's animal cruelty for one and then also failure to seek veterinary care when you've got an animal with an obvious condition is a felony as well," veterinarian Julie Maher said.

After the dog recovers, vets say it will be put up for adoption.
