The Truth About Birds & Cats

Posted: Updated:
At the Purring Parrot in Loma Portal, they don't mind giving a cat the bird. Here, cats and birds can co-exist without any ruffled feathers.

"There are so many boarding places that board dogs and cats. Well, we took the dogs out and put birds instead, which makes the cats happier," Maria Brinson said.

At the Purring Parrot, the cats are kept in suites. Each suite has a different theme. All the cathouses have beds and ramps.

"Some of the ramps we make real easy and others are intermediate for cats who like a little bit of a challenge," Maria said.

The birds and cats never make contact, but all of the feline rooms have a view of the aviary.

"We do day care and vacation care, and we get the birds out there three times a day," Maria said.

You've got birds primping for cats, cats rolling over for birds, and although you will hear an occasional squawk, it's a purr-fect place.

As America heals from a divisive election and we head into the season of peace on earth and good will toward men, we can all learn from the Purring Parrot. Regardless of the color of your plumage or the length of your dander, we can all get along if we just put our best beak forward.
