San Diego's King Bee Is Now A Jeopardy Champ

Posted: Updated:
Anurag Kashyap insists he's just your typical teen. He likes the Chargers, playing tennis and video games. He's a very likeable 17-year-old who is clearly headed for great things. The 2005 National Spelling Bee winner takes on all comers again, this time on "Jeopardy".

The Rancho Bernardo High senior always wanted to be on "Jeopardy", but quickly learned it's a lot harder than it looks from your living room.

"You have to factor in all the pressure you have - lights, doing the real thing, and that darn buzzer - because lots of time you know the answer, but when you can't time it right you don't get in and don't get the points," Anurag said.

That darn buzzer almost kept Anurag from advancing to the finals, but he figured it out just in time. Of course Anurag didn't answer every question, leaving pop culture to his competitors.

"The "Freaky Friday" clue came on and I was 'Is it Lindsey Lohan or Jamie Lee Curtis or the older one,' so I had no clue. I didn't want to take a risk," he said.

Anurag didn't have to take the risk - and here's why: he was so far ahead going into Final Jeopardy that he got the question right, bet zero and still took home the top prize - $75,000.

Anurag says he'll buy a few video games with the money, maybe get a new laptop and the rest he's saving for college.

He says he was more nervous at the spelling bee, because he spent so much time preparing for it.
