Most people cringe at the idea of showing up a the car lot and negotiating the price of a vehicle, but from now on you can replace haggling with what's called "braggling".
Car dealers spend a lot of money buying sales leads, which is why these days you can put yourself in the car buying driver's seat with Autobrag.com.
Autobrag.com founder Jonathan Friedlander showed us how to braggle.
"We've had tremendous response," he said.
After you pick a make and model, you do some research. Autobrag tracks the prices on 50,000 vehicles nationwide. In our case, the truck we want usually sells for around $38,000, but our research shows some have sold for as little as $30,800.
We then type in our ZIP code, and within seconds, more than 50 dealerships are competing for our business.
"It's very simple to do," Friedlander said.
Autobrag plays matchmaker between customer and dealer for free, using concepts that turned Google into Goliath.
"They started providing people with the services and products that they wanted, and they worried about making money later," Friedlander said.
As for us, we want immediate results, so we submit the offer and if one dealer accepts, we get a purchase order.
"You then take that purchase order and go to the dealership," Friedlander explained.
At Carl Burger's Dodge in La Mesa, you'd then be face to face with Ralph Lawler, who loves to braggle.
"This new program through Autobrag is really helping us cut costs. It's no charge to the dealer, no cost to the customer, and we can pass the savings on to the customer as a result," Lawler said.
So what about our offer of $31,000 for a $38,000 truck?
"We would take the deal on this truck right now. It would make it easy for the customer, as well as for us," Lawler said.
So what happens if you show up at the dealership with your purchase order and the salesperson changes the terms of the contract? Autobrag.com says they will remove that dealer from their system and then hammer them with negative feedback on their website.
Autobrag.com promises to not sell your personal information. In fact, they only ask for your email address.
