The music director of a local youth jazz band was behind bars today for allegedly failing to disclose to his employers his status as a registered sex offender, authorities reported.
Detectives arrested Vincent Harry Greco, 63, Sunday afternoon, shortly before he was to lead a rehearsal of the college's jazz ensemble, of which he serves as director, said Lt. Rick O'Hanlon of the San Diego Police Department. The arrest was made at San Diego Mesa College, where the ensemble rehearses. Greco is not a Mesa College employee and has no affiliation with the Mesa College Concert Jazz Band.
On Wednesday, SDPD sex-crimes investigators received a report about possible inappropriate conduct between Greco and a student at San Diego School of Creative Performing Arts, where he has volunteered as a music instructor, according to O'Hanlon.
Police subsequently determined that Greco is a registered sex offender and had failed to notify administrators at both schools about his registration requirements, the lieutenant said.
"Detectives are in the process of locating other current and former students of Greco," O'Hanlon said. "Parents and guardians are being asked to talk to their children to determine if any inappropriate conduct occurred between their children and Greco."
