San Diego Woman Stuck In Cabin As Norovirus Hits Cruise Ship

Posted: Updated:
She set out on a one-week cruise of the Mexican Riviera. Now a San Diego woman is stuck in her cabin following an outbreak of norovirus on the ship.

Marilyn Bennett is one of the 2,600 passengers on MS Oosterdam. Officials on the ship say 84 people are sick with the stomach flu. Norovirus causes vomiting and diarrhea.

Events on the ship have been canceled and passengers are urged to stay in their cabins because the virus can easily spread.

Bennett's daughter says her mom feels trapped on the cruise liner.

"I just feel bad, you know, my mom went on a vacation and now she's stuck to her room and confined to her room and she's really nervous she's really scared," daughter Star Ramos said.

The MS Oosterdam says the ship will be sterilized when it returns to San Diego Saturday morning.
