Students:
- Understand
that you're not ratting, you could be saving a friend
- Talk
with parents about threats or rumors
- Find
an adult at school you trust and can confide in
- Help
your school establish a confidential student/parent hot line
Parents:
- Open
lines of communication with your child - be a good listener
- Acknowledge
their feelings, concerns
- Emphasize
and encourage values of leadership and courage - praise their
positive acts
- Help
child identify at least one adult they trust and can turn to
- Become
a volunteer as part of your child's school safety programs
Schools:
- Implement
a 24-hour / 7-day-a-week telephone /e-mail hot line where students
and parents can report threats
- Establish
protocol for responding to reports of violence
- Develop
programs that emphasize courage, caring and responsibility, make
it part of the curriculum
