It was early Friday morning when the sea lion was discovered by Irith Abada.
"When I arrived he was going up the stairs. I was like oh my God, what is he doing here, he's in the wrong place, he needs help. So I went home and tried to get the right numbers," Abada said.
Waiting for help, Abada kept an eye on the sea lion as a crowd gathered, and with it some sympathy.
"I was so sad. It felt like it was so lonely it could barely breathe," Emily Luikens said.
Some four hours later, when Sea World arrived, something astonishing happened.
"I thought he saw a Sea World truck and it looked familiar to him it was running for the truck," Rick Blanton said.
"Actually he was going to the water, so what you do is get between them and the water, and their instinct is to go to the water. He wasn't coming to us," animal care specialist Mike Smith said.
Smith says the pup is no more than two years old, and since it's tagged, Sea World will have access to its medical history.
"A lot of times it's just getting them back on their feet. You re-hydrate them; a lot of times they come in dehydrated, they've gone without food for a while, so you get food back in them," Smith said.
The sea lion pup should be completely rehabilitated in four to six weeks, then she will be released back into the ocean.
