SAN DIEGO, Calif. (CBS 8) - What's love got to do with it? Well, everything, when it comes from the kitchen of a Mission Hills boutique bakery simply known as Cake. Here a triumvirate of talented women turn fresh ingredients in incredible, edible art.

"We hand-make everything out of chocolate here, so any bow or ribbon, rose, gardenia, cherry blossom, sunflower - anything that goes on the cake is actually out of modeling chocolate that we make here," Kimberly Gaffer said.

Most of their labor is spent handcrafting wedding cakes slathered in fresh buttercream.

"We're very honored to be the Hotel Del's vendor for their wedding cake and L'Auberge up in Del Mar," Kimberly said.

Recently Cake has added a case full of designer delights for walk-in customers.

"We have really decadent rich brownies covered with pecans, a streusel-covered raspberry bar, which is incredible, a really creamy lemon bar, apple cream tart, then we make these really good butter-sugar cookies," Kimberly said.

But at Cake, it's the cakes that really take the cake.

"There are the ganache cakes with the handmade chocolate ribbons and bows, and everything's edible," Kimberly said. "And when someone walks in and they want to buy one of these, we can write anything they want on there."

The handmade masterpieces don't get any more decadent than their banana truffle cake.

"Two layers of banana cake, two layers of mousse, a layer of truffles in the center," Kimberly said.

With all that chocolate flying around, it's no wonder that romance is in the air.

"That's what we do, we target the pleasure center right here at Cake," Kimberly said.

These women are right on target, doing what they love for those who love to believe in love, and that's what love's got to do with it.
