SAN FRANCISCO (AP) - San Francisco's Exploratorium science museum has received two anonymous donations totaling $90 million to help it move to a new home on the city's waterfront.
Museum officials say it's the largest commitment to the museum since it was founded in 1969.
The Exploratorium is currently located inside the iconic Palace of Fine Arts.
The donations will be used to repair the site of the new museum on Pier 15. The 127,000-square-foot Pier 15 was built in 1931 and is in disrepair.
Museum officials say the gifts come from prominent members of the San Francisco Bay area's high-tech industry. They are conditioned on the museum raising an additional $40 million from other donors.
Officials estimate it will cost $175 million to get the new site ready for the museum.
