Lemon Grove City Council Votes In Favor Of Smoke Free Parks

Posted: Updated:

The Lemon Grove City Council is snuffing out cigarettes in all of its parks.

Tuesday night, Council members adopted an ordinance that will make all five of the city's parks smoke free.

The organization Communities Against Substance Abuse has been working with a group of Lemon Grove teenagers to get the measure passed.

"The teens here in Lemon Grove have been doing a lot of work, building support, doing park cleanups and surveys and researching smoke-free parks for the past two years," said Lisa Archibald who is with Communities Against Substance Abuse. "So, they're very excited tonight to see the city council adopt the smoke-free ordinance, to create a healthier community in Lemon Grove."

There is no word yet on when the actual smoking ban will take effect.
