San Francisco Mayor Talks To San Diegans About Future

Posted: Updated:

San Francisco Mayor Gavin Newsom held a town hall meeting in San Diego in preparation for what many expect will be a run for governor in 2010.

Newson spoke with hundreds of San Diegans Wednesday night at a City Heights Elementary School. He covered several topics, including education, universal health care, immigration and his well-known stance in support of same-sex marriage.

"Now, the people in the state of California that disagree with me on this issue, at least they know where I stand. And they know if I believe in something I'll fight for something regardless of whether it's popular," said Newsom.

This was Newsom's 12th town hall meeting, since he began to explore a run for governor. He has similar events planned this week in Santa Barbara and Palm Springs.
Newsom tells News 8 he will likely make a formal announcement about a run for governor in the next month or two.
