U.S. Postal Service to Cut Nearly 1,400 Jobs

Posted: Updated:
In the wake of shrinking mail volume and rising costs, the U.S. Postal Service is planning to cut hundreds of jobs.

The postal service said it expects to eliminate about 1,400 management and supervisory positions.

The agency is also offering early retirement to 150,000 workers and will close down six district offices.

In 2008, the Post Office lost nearly $3 billion.
