Ocean Beach Home Destroyed by Suspicious Trash Fire

Posted: Updated:
Police reported that an Ocean Beach home burned to the ground early Sunday morning after a suspicious trash fire spread to the house.

No one was injured in the fire that started in a plastic trash can near 2032 Abbott St., said San Diego police Sgt. Ray Battrick.

The flames jumped to the porch of the home, and the entire structure was swallowed up in the flames, he said.

Battrick said no one was home at the time of the blaze, just before 5 a.m.

The fire was deemed "suspicious" and an arson unit was investigating, Battrick said.
