UCSD Sends Invitation Emails To Rejected Applicants

Posted: Updated:

SAN DIEGO (AP) - The University of California San Diego accidentally sent a welcoming e-mail to about 29,000 applicants who had been rejected by the university.

UCSD Admissions Director Mae Brown apologized for the erroneous invitation, which was sent Monday afternoon.

Brown says invitations were supposed to go to about 18,000 accepted students, but the e-mail went to all 47,000 who applied.

Two hours after the error, university officials sent out another mass e-mail apologizing for the distress it may have caused.

Admissions officers are taking calls from confused applicants and their parents.

Officials say they will review the admissions computer system but no one will be disciplined for the error.
