Tar Balls Wash Up on Coronado Beach

Posted: Updated:
Residents and vacationers are being asked to avoid Coronado Beach this weekend.

A Coast Guard pollution investigation team is working to find the source of tar balls that washed up on shore.

The clumps of tar range from the size of a quarter to about six inches across.

They can come from natural sources but sometimes are linked to oil spills.

It is unclear whether the tar balls pose any threat to beachgoers.
