Nerds are taking over the town and they're out to find more brainiacs. The Nerd Tour is in San Diego for just one night.
The idea of being a party nerd is spreading from the East Coast to the west, and one of our own grad students from Scripps Institution of Oceanography is leading the pack.
If you've never heard of Nerd Night, you're not alone. It's the newest craze in academic expression, described as a way to expose your rock n roll audience to science. As far as academia is concerned, it's really just an excuse to meet fellow nerds over a beer.
"Nerd night is a combination of the 2 greatest things - science and rock music - and its an outplant from the East Coast where grad students at Harvard and in New York started a gimmick where you'd have interviews and Power Point presentations at bars," Scripps PhD student Kristen Marhaver said.
Marhaver studies corals in the Caribbean. She will be entertaining the crowd with her knowledge of coral spawning at the Casbah for the Nerd Tour.
