A man made a 911 call from a San Carlos Wednesday afternoon to report that he had accidentally shot a friend, who was pronounced dead at the scene.

San Diego police got the report of the shooting at a gated residential complex in the 7100 block of Navajo Road shortly after 3 p.m., SDPD spokeswoman Monica Munoz said.

Medics pronounced the victim, a 20-year-old man, dead in one of the apartment's bedrooms, police Sgt. Bryan Pendleton told reporters.

Homicide detectives were questioning the 25-year-old man who reported the shooting. When he made the emergency call, the man, whose name was not immediately available, said he'd accidentally shot his friend in the chest, according to police.
