Landslide Hits Home In Point Loma

Posted: Updated:

SAN DIEGO (AP) - Authorities in San Diego say a Point Loma hillside collapsed today, sending a 50-foot-long mudslide down to a home below but causing no damage or injuries.

Several nearby homes were evacuated.

About 100 cubic yards of soil below a Bangor Street home slid into the yard of an unoccupied home below it on San Fernando Street.

Maurice Luque with the San Diego Fire-Rescue Department reports dirt came up to the back of that house but there is no apparent structural damage.

Luque says three people had to leave two nearby homes and the home on the hill above it.

He estimates the slide measured about 50 feet long and 40 feet wide.

Some kind of water leak is suspected as the cause but Luque says it remains under investigation.
