Pink Slips Mailed to 5,000 State Employees

Posted: Updated:
State of California employees may be dreading to check their mail boxes this weekend because it might just contain a layoff notice.

State agencies hustled to comply with Governor Schwarzenegger's order to mail out 5,000 layoff notices.

The prison system is said to be hardest hit, with 3,600 pink slips from the Department of Corrections and Parole Agents to be sent out.

Workers who get the notices have four months to find another job with the state that isn't paid for by the general fund.

For example, the Department of Motor Vehicles is supported by registration and license fees, and not taxes.
