San Diego-Based Cruise Ship To Resume Trips To Mexico

Posted: Updated:
The San Diego homeported cruise ship Carnival Elation will resume voyages to Mexico next month, it was announced today.

The 2,052-passenger ship halted its regularly scheduled cruises to ports in Mexico late last month due to the swine flu outbreak and a subsequent recommendation by the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention against all non-essential travel to Mexico.

The CDC has since lifted its recommendation against Mexico travel.

The Carnival Elation will resume calls in Mexico with a three-day cruise to Ensenada on June 18, according to the Port of San Diego.

Following the outbreak of the H1N1 influenza virus, a number of cruise lines diverted their ships away from Mexican ports to San Diego and other destinations along the U.S. West Coast.
