Fate of Same-Sex Marriage in the Hands of State Supreme Court

Posted: Updated:
Anticipation is building ahead of Tuesday's state Supreme Court ruling on Proposition 8.

Proposition 8 eliminated the right of same-sex couples to marry.

Voters approved the measure by a 52-48 percent vote.

Justices will also decide the legality of about 18,000 gay marriages performed before the ban took effect.

The court's decision is expected at 10 a.m. Tuesday.

Whichever way the court rules, gay rights advocates plan to hold rallies at Balboa Park and Escondido City Hall.
