Reward Offered for Return of Stolen Fireworks

Posted: Updated:
Authorities are offering a $5,000 reward for information leading to an arrest or the location of five cases of aerial fireworks that were stolen from a Lakeside fireworks store.

A Fireworks America employee reported on May 23 that five cases of fireworks with more than 300 aerial shells were stolen from the store at 12650 Highway 67 in northeast San Diego, said Special Agent Michael Hoffman of the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives.

The fireworks were in five cardboard boxes with an orange "Explosive 1.3 G" label affixed to the box, Hoffman said.

"The theft of these fireworks is very serious and can have devastating consequences," said John Torres, who heads the bureau's Southern California district. "The last thing we want to see is someone get injured or killed as a result of misusing these things. There are plenty of places to safely enjoy fireworks displays and it is best left to the experts."

The ATF is offering a $5,000 reward for information leading to the recovery of the fireworks. Anyone with information was asked to call the bureau's toll-free hotline at (888)283-2662.
