2 San Diego Police Officers Cleared

Posted: Updated:
SAN DIEGO (AP) - Authorities say two San Diego police officers were justified in fatally shooting a man who had just stabbed his estranged wife to death when he charged at them with a knife and slashed a police dog.

District Attorney Bonnie Dumanis ruled Thursday that Officers Arthur Scott and John Thompson were justified in shooting fifty-one-year-old Willard Anthony Bradley when he came at them with a blood-soaked knife during the March 20 incident. He died at the scene.

Officers later found the body of his 50-year-old wife, Gail, in her home.

Dumanis found that because the officers were acting in self defense, they bore no criminal liability for shooting Bradley.

The dog survived.
