Alleged Flasher May Also Be Suspect in Attempted Kidnapping

Authorities said a suspected flasher who may have tried to kidnap a 14-year-old girl remained behind bars Saturday -- his 22nd birthday.

Daniel Nestor Ortega was arrested about 2 p.m. Thursday on Akins Avenue near 64th Street in Encanto about 2 p.m. Thursday, San Diego police Sgt. Louis Valenzuela told the Union-Tribune.

Ortega was driving on Akins near 65th Street about 11:30 a.m. when he pulled up alongside a 17-year-old girl, asked for directions and then exposed himself, police said.

The girl gave police a description of the Ortega's light-blue 1992 Toyota Previa minivan and part of the license, and police found the van and arrested Ortega, the newspaper reported.

Ortega admitted exposing himself at least 13 times to teenage girls since April, Valenzuela said. Detectives are investigating if Ortega tried to kidnap a girl in Encanto on May 18.

Ortega, who is believed to be an illegal immigrant, was being held in lieu of $50,000 bail. Authorities also requested an "immigration hold."
