Jury Recommends Death Penalty For Jean Rices

Posted: Updated:

EL CAJON, Calif. (AP) - A jury has recommended the death penalty for a man who fatally shot two people while robbing a liquor store in El Cajon.

Jurors deliberated less than three hours Wednesday in San Diego County Superior Court before recommending death for Jean Pierre Rices.

Rices, 27, pleaded guilty last year to two counts of first-degree murder for shooting an East County liquor store owner and one of her clerks in March 2006.

Earlier this week, a separate jury deadlocked on murder charges alleging co-defendant Anthony Miller's participation in the killings. A retrial is scheduled for September.
