Man Ruled Incompetent For Trial In Parents' Deaths

Posted: Updated:

SAN DIEGO (AP) - A judge has ruled that a man charged with hacking his parents to death in Carlsbad is not mentally competent to stand trial.

San Diego County Superior Court Judge Frederick Maguire on Wednesday suspended criminal proceedings against 44-year old Dennis Gluck and ordered him sent to a state mental hospital for treatment.

Gluck will remain in the hospital for up to three years or until he regains his competency.

Maguire ruled after reviewing a doctor's report.

Gluck is charged with killing his parents in their home and fleeing to Mexico. Authorities found the bodies of 90-year-old Harry Gluck and his 78-year old wife Jean on Jan. 18 with chop wounds to their upper bodies.
