Edgar Gonzalez Visits Padres After Hospitalization

Posted: Updated:

SAN DIEGO (AP) - Edgar Gonzalez visited the San Diego Padres' clubhouse Monday, two days after he was hit in the head with a pitch and hospitalized with a concussion.

The 31-year-old infielder, who was released from the hospital Sunday afternoon, saw the replay of his beaning for the first time on Monday in the team's video room.

"I didn't know I got to the ground that fast, I thought I took more time," he said. "I felt pretty bad but I'm saying when I saw it, I can see how people could think it was really bad because I went down fast.

"I remember everything," Gonzalez said. "I remember getting hit, I remember going to the ground and I remember starting to pray right away. I was just like 'Please don't let it happen, please.' I was conscious of everything."

When asked about the impact of the pitch from Jason Hammel of the Colorado Rockies, Gonzalez said he "felt my brain move backward. I felt like I didn't have a helmet and I just thought it didn't hit the helmet. I thought it had hit me straight because that's how much it hurt."

Gonzalez, who was wearing a neck brace to help with vertigo, said he doesn't have now, but he only regained 80 percent of the hearing in his left ear after not being to hear at all.

Gonzalez, who will not do any baseball related activities for likely a week, was placed on 15-day disabled list Monday with reliever Joe Thatcher recalled from Triple-A Portland.
