MILWAUKEE (AP) - The San Diego Padres have called up right-hander Cesar Carrillo to make his first major league start against the Milwaukee Brewers.
Carrillo started Thursday. To make room for him, the Padres sent right-hander Mike Ekstrom to Triple-A Portland.
Carrillo was a first-round draft pick of the Padres in 2005, but needed elbow reconstruction surgery in 2007 and missed part of last season. This year, he's split time between Double-A San Antonio and Triple-A Portland.

Vince Velasquez allowed two hits over seven innings and the Philadelphia Phillies beat the San Diego Padres 5-0 Sunday for a doubleheader split.
Jordan Spieth set the tone pulling driver on the 396-yard opening hole and sending it bouncing and rolling to 10 feet for eagle. Moments later, Tiger Woods sent the gallery into a frenzy with three straight birdies to get into contention at a major for the first time in five years.
