Big memories of little leagues past

Posted: Updated:

Chula Vista's Park View All-Stars are looking forward to the Little League World Series. That has former members of one local North County team looking back to their big memories of heading there too, just four years ago.

Rancho Buena Vista All-Stars center fielder Reed Reznicek's grand slam in the 2005 western regional championship, along with his two-run homer in the fourth inning helped give RBV a 7-2 victory, sending the team to Williamsport - and the experience of a lifetime for the kids.

"I was really nervous. Twenty-five thousand people... you don't get that until you pretty much go pro," he said.

Reed, now entering his senior year at Rancho as a highly-recruited pitcher on its baseball team, says his World Series experience and the spotlight it brings was eye-opening.

For Reed's dad Randy - also the team's coach - the field of dreams passed all expectations.

"The place is bigger than life, so when you get there you really feel like something special," Randy said.

Even more special when the team returned: Reed's mom Jana was also the team mom.

"Parades and Holiday Bowl and dinners and luncheons, all in tribute and support of our kids," Jana said.

It's a once-in-a-lifetime experience that will stay with these players for the rest of their lives.

"It's interesting to experience for the first time. It helps you later in the future," Reed said.

Even though Rancho Buena Vista ended up losing to Hawaii in the 2005 Little League World Series, Reed Reznicek says his team felt really good about coming in third-best in the entire world.
