Governor praises sheriff's deputy's heroics during fire

Posted: Updated:
A Placer County sheriff's deputy received high praise from Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger for saving an elderly woman's life during the Auburn fire.

Deputy Ken Skogen admitted he was flattered by the governor's comments, but rejected the notion that he is a hero.

He said he was simply responding to a cry for help when he broke into the burning home.

Skogen kicked in a window and a door to get to the trapped woman, who was in her 80s and could not walk.

Skogen, 30, has been with the sheriff's department for three years.
