Study: Hospital care for boomers expected to rise

Posted: Updated:

U.S. hospitals spent 16 percent of their overall patient care costs treating baby boomers in 2007, and that number is expected to rise even higher.

In a study conducted by the Agency for Health Care Research, that number is expected to jump to 18 percent by 2020.

The average hospital cost for a baby boomer was almost $12,000 compared to 45- to 54-year-olds.

About 37 percent of baby boomers were covered by public insurance. Fifty-two percent had private insurance. Six percent were uninsured.
