Two Mexican men have been charged with smuggling dozens of illegal immigrants after they tried storming their vans past a U.S. border crossing in San Diego County.

Federal prosecutors on Thursday accused Sergio Guzman-Torres and Jose Jaramillo-Mendez of bringing illegal immigrants across the San Ysidro crossing from Tijuana, Mexico.

Authorities say Jaramillo was a passenger and Guzman was driving one of three vans that raced past border guards on Tuesday afternoon but got stuck in heavy traffic.

Federal agents shot at the vans across crowded lanes of traffic.

Guzman was wounded and three others were injured.

Authorities say Guzman and another driver were arrested while a third driver ran back to Mexico, where he was captured and may face prosecution.
