Chula Vista boy walking on Las Vegas Strip struck by SUV

Posted: Updated:

An SUV that ran up on a sidewalk on the Las Vegas Strip hit a 9-year-old Chula Vista boy, causing life-threatening injuries.

Las Vegas police say the vehicle apparently went onto the sidewalk and crashed into a fire hydrant yesterday morning across the street from the Mandalay Bay resort on the south end of the Strip.

The child is being treated at the University Medical Center for head and stomach injuries.

The driver of the SUV, 55-year-old Calvin Nelson of Las Vegas, was also hospitalized.

Police say they will ask the district attorney for an arrest warrant on charges of driving under the influence.
