Coaster train derailment stops traffic, commuters in rush hour downtown

Posted: Updated:
Crews worked into the night to get a Coaster train back on the tracks after it derailed during rush hour Friday near the Embarcadero, shutting down Broadway and tying up downtown traffic.

The train came off the tracks between Kettner Boulevard and Pacific Coast Highway just around 5 p.m. Friday. Traffic was shut down and detours were set up for more than six hours as crews tried to remove the train cars and repair the tracks damaged when the Coaster derailed.

Officials said no one was on the train at the time of the derailment.

News 8's Craig McKee has the story along with witnesses' reactions in this video.
