A North County traffic accident left a pedestrian dead and a DUI suspect under arrest today, authorities reported.

The driver, 36-year-old Carl David, lost control of the vehicle he was driving in the 12600 block of Sabre Springs Parkway shortly before 9:30 a.m., according to San Diego police.

The car veered off the roadway and onto a sidewalk, striking the pedestrian, who was believed to be in her mid to late 60s or early 70s, SDPD spokeswoman Monica Munoz said.

The woman, whose name was withheld pending notification of her family, died at the scene.

David was expected to be booked into county jail on suspicion of vehicular manslaughter and felony driving while intoxicated, Munoz said.
