Chollas View house red tagged, after school bus crash

Posted: Updated:

An Emerald Hills home is red-tagged and too dangerous to enter after a school bus slammed into it Wednesday.

Three people were injured, when the bus driver rear-ended a mini van at a stop sign and then veered into the home at Euclid Avenue and Guymon Street. There were no students on board the bus at the time of the crash.

The accident was reported shortly after 4 p.m., according to police and the San Diego Fire-Rescue Department.

Emergency crews arrived to find the yellow bus on the roadside, its back end blocking a sidewalk and its hood smashed through the front of a home.

Medics took the female bus driver and the two people who had been in the minivan -- a 44-year-old woman and her 9-year-old son -- to hospitals for treatment of apparently minor injuries, fire department spokesman Maurice Luque said.

The bus driver may have lost control of the school district vehicle due to a seizure or other medical emergency, SDPD Detective Gary Hassen said.

The American Red Cross was summoned to help the two residents of the damaged home arrange for interim lodging, and a city engineer was sent to the scene to gauge the structural integrity of the residence, according to Luque.
