Crimetracker: Police search for six men in sexual battery at SDSU

Posted: Updated:

Police are warning students not to walk alone at night, after six men attacked a woman on campus.

Word was getting around the San Diego State campus that a student was assaulted by six men as she walked alone through a vacant lot at 1 a.m. this past Sunday.

Police have posted crime alert flyers on campus. The victim reported she was returning on foot from a party through a popular shortcut behind the Aztec Corner Apartments. That's where six men tackled her to the ground, forced her to drink an unknown liquid and sexually battered her.

"Everyone thinks stuff like this can't happen. No one's asking for something like this, and then it could change your life forever," a female student said.

Campus police say she was not raped.

The suspects are described as six black men, college age, wearing baseball caps. Three of the suspects were seen harassing women earlier in the evening.

"We don't have any indication that this is part of a series. It seems to be an isolated incident," SDSU Police Lt. Lamine Secka said.

The News 8 CrimeFighters ran the numbers for assaults on the San Diego State Campus. Police report one rape and 41 assaults since the beginning of the year.

"It's very scary. It's very real and very scary," a student said.

Officers are patrolling the area where this latest attack happened, and they're reminding students not to walk alone.

"If you're going to be out late at night, travel in groups, stay with your friends, know your surroundings and where you are and obviously stay in well-lit areas," Lt. Secka said.

Students can also call campus police to request an escort on campus during nighttime hours.

If you know anything about this sexual attack, police want to hear from you.
