South African grannies "scoring" on soccer team

Posted: Updated:

Some grannies in South Africa have traded in their chores for soccer balls.

The soccer team has captured the attention of an entire town. The golden girls say they are hooked on the game. The oldest of the 35-member team is 84 years old.

Despite their age, many say it keeps them young at heart.

"I like to play the soccer because it does help us. We were sick, but now our temperatures, our BPs  and everything, since we have started playing the soccer, has gone down," soccer player Nari Baloyi said.

Team members each contribute $1 a month to play. The money is used to buy soccer balls and to pay for any travel expenses.
