An autopsy was conducted Saturday for a 28-year-old Rancho Bernardo woman whose body was found in her apartment, and her neighbor remains in custody for allegedly stabbing her to death.

The victim is identified as Jennifer Lee Jones, of San Diego. Her death was classified as a homicide. Jones was identified by family members who flew in from Ohio.

Joines' neighbor, Richard Saldivar, remains at San Diego Central Jail where he was booked Thursday night on suspicion of first degree murder. The 40-year-old is scheduled to make his first court appearance at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday at Central Division Felony Arraignment in downtown San Diego.

Officers were asked by Jones' mother to check the welfare of the 28-year-old woman in her rental residence in the 15000 block of Avenida Venusto about 5 p.m. Thursday, SDPD homicide Lt. Kevin Rooney said.

Jones' mother told detectives she had been talking to her daughter by phone when she heard a man's voice, followed by a scream. The connection then went went dead.

About 10 p.m., police found Saldivar sitting in his car with his wife and children in a parking lot just west of the victim's apartment, Rooney said. They spoke with him, then took him into custody for further questioning.

Shortly before 8:30 a.m., detectives arrested Saldivar on suspicion of murdering his neighbor.

"The motive in the crime will not be (immediately) released," the lieutenant said.
