Normal Heights man charged after standoff with SWAT teams

Posted: Updated:

A Normal Heights man is in custody Wednesday, after a standoff with police.

The standoff happened Tuesday night at 33rd Street and El Cajon Boulevard when officers tried to serve a search warrant. Police say David Darcy pointed a rifle at a detective. Then, officers fired several rounds and the SWAT team was called.

Darcy was not hit, and he was arrested on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon on a peace officer.

Darcy was wanted on a drug charge related to an undercover purchase made by officers earlier in the week.

During the standoff, a major section of El Cajon Boulevard was shut down to traffic and there were a few evacuations. Other residents were urged to stay inside until the incident was over.
