SoCal winds easing but thousands without power

Posted: Updated:
LOS ANGELES (AP) - Gusty winds that toppled trees and snapped electrical lines in Southern California have eased but there are still strong gusts in some areas and thousands of people remain without power.

The National Weather Service canceled many wind warnings but says gusts to 70 mph are still possible through the late morning in Los Angeles County and Ventura County mountains, canyons and valleys.

About 22,000 Southern California homes and businesses remain without power.

On Tuesday, winds toppled a tree through the roof of a South Los Angeles church and forced a plane to divert from Los Angeles International Airport.

The winds were from a cold front that's expected to bring subfreezing temperatures to the deserts Wednesday night.
